Abstract

Calvariae of fetal rat 181/2 days in utero were placed on the Bioceramics (45S5 Bioglass, 52S Bioglass & dense hydroxyapatite) in 60mm petri dish and calvariae of negative control group were placed in petri dish. These are cultured with BGJb
media
(containing 10% fetal calf serum & 50 mg/l gentamycin). After 7, and 14 days of the culture, the explants were harvested and processed for transmission electron microscopy.
@ES The results were as follows
@EN 1. After 7 day-culture, bone formations were observed in all experimental and control groups.
2. After 7 day-culture, in case of 45S5 Bioglass, 52S Bioglass, and Hydroxyapatite groups, the mineralization was developed better than that of control group. Matrix vesicles, bone nodules and osteoids were obteoids were observed well.
3. After 14 day-culture, 45S5 Bioglass, 52S Bioglass, and Hydroxyapatite groups showed bone formation continuously. As mineralization was progressed, needle-shaped crystal which was inside the matrix vesicle and some loss of membrane of matrix
vesicle
were shown.
